18th November 2007Saxon 6 - 0 Ventura VikingsGordon Howes Memorial Cup Round 2 In the three games Saxon have played Ventura they have scored 19 goals to only 3 in reply. Progressing into Round 3 of the cup is another achievement the first team have notched this season. After last weeks 9-1 drubbing of Ventura a home win was expected. A couple of absences meant a start for Joe Judge up front and Stu Horton at the back. The first 15 minutes were not convincing, Saxon saw a more attacking and defensive Ventura team. This was short lived when Joe Judge latched onto a ball in the area to volley into the top corner. Saxon were well on top and when Dave Ward curled a corner into the box Adam Gaggini headed home with ease. More pressure was exerted on the away team but a third goal did not come in the first half. The second half saw a lot of chances go begging for Saxon and then soon after The Egg (Gorton) scored a headed goal. Saxon were well on top when the ref gave a penalty after the keeper took out Diddy, unfortunately the Ventura defender couldn’t keep quiet and was given his marching orders. Joe Judge calmly converted the penalty. A handball on the edge of the area allowed Dave Ward to score another trademark free kick bullet to make it 5 – 0. The game petered out towards the end. Joe Judge managed to get his hat-trick before the final whistle to finish off another fine display for the team. Man of the Match – Joe Judge
