Ventura Vikings 2 - 4 Saxon 1st
The new season started with a good win against experienced and sterdy opposition.
Off the back of 3 wins in friendlies The 1st Team look like they are gelling together nicely both on and off the pitch. With only 4 players out of the 14 over the age of 21 this was a result to be proud of especially as the home team took an early lead.
The pitch width has been reduced which didn't help Saxon's tactics, however Matt Judge brilliantly drew us level 25mins, then, only a minute afterwards the Vikings took the lead again through a nice move. This was to be their last positive of the match as Saxon took control and levelled through a gutsy finish from Nathan Heycock (debut).
Saxon kept their composure as the Vikings fouled constantly. Changes were made due to injuries to Hooky and Heycock. Immediately afterwards Saxon scored from a great poachers goal by Liam Swane.
Only 5 mins later Saxon were awarded a free kick on the edge of the 18 yard box, Dave Ward showed his class and buried the ball in the top corner like a bullet from a gun.
From then on - in Saxon were strong and dealt with the long ball tactics, they just saw out the game in a professional manner.
